Fishing Tips    March/April/May 2007
Fishing with  Bobbie

January marks the beginning of a new year,  and the beginning of a great season of fishing.  Speckled Trout invading the inshore waters,  start the year off,  giving everyone a real opportunity to take some fish home.  Along with the trout,  whiting and silver trout are in mass  on the beaches.  And remember that redfish,  drum and flounder are found in the same spots,  giving you a great opportunity for a nice mixed bag.  Live or frozen shrimp,  fished on light tackle  will be all you need,  to target all of the above.  Offshore,  the grouper will be moving into their winter homes,  giving you many opportunities to catch fish  inside 40ft.  To target these fish  on the bottom,  use a sardine  or a chunk of squid.  This works well to get them started.  Then drop a pinfish down,  and hang on!  For those with the know-how,  trolling plugs will cover lots of ground  and put fish in the box.  This method also allows you to put new numbers in the book.
Snook season will reopen in February,  and come the spring,  the kingfish and macks  will only add to the number of species available to all of us  the first half of the year.  Remember to familiarize yourself with local laws,  release the fish you don't want,  and  take a kid with you.  It will make the Fishing all the better.
